Gravel is a scarce commodity in many areas of Canada such as in the Prairies. Yet it is critical for road development and maintenance as well as for production of concrete and other products. Gravel can be searched for using terrain analysis, surface geology reconnaissance (e.g., hand augering, surface exposure mapping), electromagnetic (EM) ground conductivity surveys, and mechanical augering and test pitting.
